What You Missed : 2016 Oscars

Culture

Last night, ABC aired the 88th Academy Award ceremony live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Due to the controversy of not having any nominees of color for two consecutive years, host Chris Rock did not hold back from making some humorous remarks about the”White People’s Choice Awards”. We have to give him a round of applause for his approach to this heated matter but some may not have appreciated his sense of humor so much.

Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar! He tried his luck five times before, but the sixth time is always a charm, right? At least he didn’t have to wait 19 consecutive Daytime Emmy nominations like Susan Lucci.

Leo tried to keep his cool in his acceptance speech but we all know he was bursting with exuberance and relief on the inside. He added a tinge of environmentalism after thanking the director and other cast/crew members. The Revenant was critically acclaimed for the performance and direction, receiving a total of 12 nominations in the 88th Academy Awards. I am yet to watch the film but I am sure I won’t be let down.

Black History Month is an annual celebration since 1976 of the achievements by black Americans. They have such a significant role in the development of our country and I would like to take a moment to commemorate all the black Americans who have brought this country to what greatness is has come to. One month is surely not enough to devote to them.

Watch this video of poets describing what Black History Month means to them.

Recently discovered this YouTuber and I have got to say, I love what she does and her outfits are spectacularly chic. I would definitely wear the clothes she picked out, especially because our styles are so similar. It is my dream to start a YouTube channel like this some day. Make sure to subscribe to her channel clothesencounters !

On a side note, I applied to become a writer for Her Campus at Texas A&M University two weeks ago and I got in! This will be a wonderful opportunity for me to grow as a versatile  writer and to improve my content for you guys. Wish me luck 😀

Warrior

Blog

All eyes on me,

the criticizing gems glaring at me as

this bodacious scarlet gown sweeps across the stage,

caressing every inch of my bare body.

Nervous and irregular breaths escape my chest.

Photography flashes flicker throughout the auditorium,

like the flames of a lit candle.

What do they think of me?

Then my mind wonders,

who are you to judge me

when I don’t even know myself.

My soul possesses confidence and beauty.

I am a warrior by heart.

Living the Dream

If money was not an object, what would I do? Who would I be? What would I aspire for?

If money was not an object, I would aspire to start my own successful hotel franchise, Farihah Hotels. I would also want to be journalist, actress, and UN ambassador. I would want to the world would be my palace so I could go on mission trips to benefit those around me. I would donate a large fraction of my earnings to the poor and to the research of developing cures for diseases. My home would be a simple one, as long as I have a loving family to cherish it with. I would live in a scenic and serene area not too close to the city, but not too secluded from society.

Unfortunately, money plays a considerable role in our daily lives so I do have to think practically when if comes to pursuing my dreams. That doesn’t mean I won’t shoot for the stars, because I know I was meant to fly. Believe in yourself.

Need a little motivation? Check out the motivational video for the week here

Today’s post was inspired by The Daily Prompt: Money for Nothing. “If you’re like most of us, you need to earn money by working for a living. Describe your ultimate job. If you’re in your dream job, tell us all about it — what is it that you love? What fulfills you? If you’re not in your dream job, describe for us what your ultimate job would be.” If you could choose a dream job or lifestyle , what would it be and why? Let me know in the comments below!
