Flaunt Your Florals

Fashion

We’re three weeks into the spring season, yet somehow the weather just keeps getting colder, even in Texas. But that doesn’t mean you can’t dress cute while keeping warm. If you love florals, then you’re in luck. They are huge for this spring season! I like florals, but just subtle hints of floral embroidery here and there, or even floral lace patterns. After all, I am all about the minimalist approach.

Here’s a look you can achieve with a simple black/white collared top with floral design, and palazzos or high-waisted wide-leg pants with richer, warm springtime colors. I left the last few buttons of the top open for extra flare, and wore a black basic tee under it, which I tucked in.

If it’s cold enough where you live, you can even pair it with a floor length duster jacket, or a black trench coat.

Black Friday Deals and Steals

Fashion

Thanksgiving is coming up and as much as I’m looking forward to cooking up a feast for my family, I’m especially excited about the Black Friday shopping. There are so many trends I’ve been eying at Zara, Forever 21, and more. Although many stores mark up their items before adding on a “holiday discount,” some sales are just too good to pass up.

Boohoo

As if their clothes aren’t cheap enough, Boohoo is offering 60% off its entire store on Black Friday. You can get most of the tops, dresses, and jackets for $10 or less. Definitely a steal!

Shein

Shein is one of my favorite online stores. Starting Thanksgiving Day, Shein is offering 60% off its entire store, along with a BOGO 99% off deal for some items. Make sure to snag their tops and sweaters for $5-$10!

10% off if you order using a new email

$10 off orders $79+ (USE CODE LIS10)

$15 off orders $105+ (USE CODE LIS15)

$30 off orders $200+ (USE CODE LIS30)

Zara

I’ve always considered Zara to be the store that blends with my sense of style but it can be a little pricy when it comes to their long sleeve tops and dresses. If you’re like me, now is the chance to snag your favorite items!

Ruffles, sequins, trumpet sleeves, and beaded sweaters are definitely in right now. Although Zara has STILL not yet officially announced their Black Friday Deals this year, the store has historically been known to have 20-30% off the entire store. It’s safe to assume that will be the case this year too.

BH Cosmetics

If you haven’t bought yourself their 120 Shade Eyeshadow Palette, you need to get on that now. Super pigmented, these crazy colors in the Second Edition palette give me life. The entire store has sales up to 75% off so now you can get the palette for as low as $10.

ColourPop

If you’re looking to color your life, look no further. Colourpop Cosmetics is offering 20% off everything in its lineup. The flash sale starts Thursday at 10 am PST and goes on for 48 hours.

On Black Friday, it’s launching “Take Me Home,” an exclusive palette for Sephora at only $12! ColourPop is also offering BOGO on all Liquid Lippies on November 23 and November 24. Or you can hold out until Cyber Monday when the entire site is 20% off.

$5 off with email sign-up

Nyx Professional Makeup

From November 24 to November 25, take 30% off your entire purchase both in stores and online. Go get yourself Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks! The In Your Element Shadow Palette consisting of three-element palettes is pretty neat too.

E.l.f

Your favorite drugstore brand is offering a whole 50% off online from November 24th through November 28th. Half. Off. Everything!

Payless

50% off the entire site and store. Payless stores are closed Thanksgiving Day. No coupons accepted on 11/23

BOGO 50% off (USE CODE DRESS20)

A’Gaci

Culottes + Metallics

Fashion

Hello friends! As the holidays approach quickly, the year is coming to a close end, but I am in no way prepared for a brand new year. Sometimes I wish the holidays would never end. I love the pretty lights and decorations everywhere, and let’s not forget the sales. There are so many new trends this fall and I am definitely splurging this Black Friday to snag myself some statement pieces. This fall, we have vintage looking fur coats, knee length boots, metallics, velvet, belted coats, and the color red trending.

Since metallics are my absolute favorite, I’ve come up with your next go-to look.

Metallics

Matte colors are so basic. In order to create that little pop in your outfit, you need something that stands out, and that’s exactly why I love metallics. You can tuck in this long sleeve metallic shirt with palazzo pants, bell bottoms, slacks, jeans, you name it. Don’t confuse metallics for glitter. Glittery tops can look cheap and tacky. The metallics I suggest investing in, are the tops with metallic threads so you won’t leave a trail of glitter behind you. Metallic leather purses are so gorgeous. It’s the statement piece everyone needs.

Culottes

Culottes are basically palazzo flare/fancy pants that end at your ankles. Just the right coverage if you’re into modest fashion, and it doesn’t have you tripping all over it while you’re climbing stairs. And now, you can actually show off your pretty shoes. Culottes are all over the runways during NYFW. Pair them with metallic oxfords, grey oxfords, or even strappy heels like I did.

Retail Therapy for Couch Potatoes

Fashion

Hello friends! So I mentioned my love for online stores Shein and Boohoo in last week’s post. Now it’s time for a review. And no, this post is not sponsored.

Honestly, I was pleased with every item I purchased. The material was comfortable and the designs came out as pictured on the site. The sizing was surprisingly accurate as well.

Picnic Blankets and Pina Coladas

Fashion

Fall is in the air and new styles are trending. Shopping for chic but modest outfits that don’t break that bank is like searching for a needle in a haystack. It’s vexing to scour heaps of clothes only to find one embroidered long sleeve top that ends up costing $50.

So I have resorted to online shopping and I don’t mean on the sites of mainstream retail stores. My friend Merziya  introduced to Boohoo and Shein which, to be honest, I was a little skeptical about. Online stores don’t give me the option of returning clothes at the physical store and quickly picking out an alternative.

Minimalism: Less is more

Fashion

It’s officially the first day of fall but this Houston heat hasn’t backed down even a smidge. It might even be mid to late October till we get a cool breeze around here during the daytime. My wardrobe sure as hell won’t be waiting around for that (trust me, we’d be waiting till January for a decent drop in temperature).

It’s a new season, and I’ve got a new fashion approach I’m willing to take on. It’s trending, it’s in, and it’s what all the broke college kids are talking about these days — minimalism. You mean like minimal body coverage? Ummm, no. It doesn’t mean minimal effort either. Minimalism is about living with fewer material possessions and making the most of what you have so you can focus on what’s really important in life. This can mean redecorating your home in the simplest way possible, reducing clutter, and donating things you really don’t need.

Summer Lookbook

Fashion

I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer! This summer has kicked off to a great start, with Ramadan already half way through and a looming internship in the big apple. I know it’s been a while since I posted here so I promise I am going to get back into it.

Filming this lookbook took a great deal of work, but boy was it worth it. I really do hope you enjoy it and maybe even end up buying some of the statement pieces. The looks were meant to be as diverse as possible, with different styles and color schemes.

Spring Break Getaway OOTD

Fashion

During spring break a few weeks ago, my family decided to go on a mid-week getaway at a secluded resort in Austin, Texas. Barton Creek Resorts was beautiful, surrounded by flourishing plants. Greenery pervaded the acreage as we had a front-view of the golf course from our window. This technology-free vacation was exactly what I needed to reconnect with my family and take my mind off of worldly stress. I left that back at home. There was a cute nature trail and mini-golf course right by the outdoor pool on the cliff overlooking the large bodies of water and surrounding mansions. The sight was breathtaking. I finally had my chance to eat out for almost every meal, trying new varieties like Vietnamese Pho and Japanese California rolls.

A Friday in Fall OOTD

Fashion

This week has been hectic. With a divisive election, nationwide protests, riots, and hatred pervading our communities, things aren’t looking too good. We must stand strong and hope for the best for our nation, because there isn’t much we can do beyond that. This is a democracy; rule of the people, by the people, for the people. If it weren’t for our whispers that meld into roars, America wouldn’t be as established and prosperous as it is today. Don’t ever feel like your voice doesn’t matter. Trust me, it does.

Today’s look is dominated by blue hues, but the photo’s vintage edits give it a somber, warm tone. The photographer was my good friend Laraib Hashmi.
