Types of Couples on Valentine’s Day

Take a Chill Pill, Uncategorized

Hello all! I apologize for being so busy this week that I haven’t posted much. An update on my life: I have been bogged down with Mondays and Wednesdays packed with classes till 8:30 pm, and my Houstonia Magazine fellowship from 9:30-5 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition to that, I have been out the rest of the weekend interviewing Simone Biles (yes, the Olympic gold medalist) and Haute Hijab CEO Melanie Elturk, attending events to cover for the magazine, spending time with friends, volunteering, and filming/editing YouTube videos. Events and interviews may seem like fun, and don’t get me wrong. They are. There is always so much to do that I constantly have this voice in my head nagging about some other event I need to run to another deadline to meet, even if it’s a self-imposed one. I just need one day to relax, clear my head, and treat myself by indulging myself in an alleviating hot bath with a Lush bath bomb, and a good movie (or binge watch a few) on Netflix.

Anyway, here is the YouTube video my friend and I collaborated on, in light of the upcoming “Day of Romance” aka Valentine’s Day. Please don’t cherish your partner for just this one day, I beg of you. Go buy your S.O. a bouquet right now or wash the dishes to keep your youthful romance ongoing on a daily basis. Don’t forget to ask about their day, how they are feeling, compliment them and just give them a back massage after work without being asked. It’s the little things that count. Now, you know the routine. Please like, subscribe, and share my video on social media. Loads of love ❤

Complete Yourself

Uncategorized, Written Word Wednesday

The empty canvas stares, mocking her

fears meant to be poured out as vibrant splatters.

Beastly secrets seething in the artist’s soul gather,

pounding on the doors of Hell, summoning to be released.

Into a dream of fairy tales and lovers’ sacred decree.

The artist must choose, a life of murder or letting go.

Release the demons within, and row

the boat in a river of untouched goals.

She escapes to become one with God, her savior truly.

Takes off like a bird, and revels in the world’s trivial beauties.

Travel this game of life one place at a time,

Roll the dice and see where you go,

like a drop of rain before the rainbow.

Expand the bounds of your horizons, illuminate them with pastel.

Go conquer your fears, and complete yourself.

The Eighth Deadly Sin

Blog, Uncategorized

Ignorance. The root of all evils is fueled by the negligence to open up to the world around you and understand what makes society the way it is today. Living in the 21st century, technology has globalized ideas rapidly, making us all a more united population. It is our duty to seek information and knowledge to help us explore what kinds of people walk amongst us, their beliefs, cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. If we continue to stereotype and fail to escape the minuscule narrow cardboard box of a mind, then this world will never develop. Wars occur throughout countries based off of misunderstandings that no one thought to clear up. Innocent lives are lost, friendships die out, and bonds are already broken between you and people who you never even had the courage to speak to. Speak nothing about those who you do not understand. If one person from a particular faith does something outrageous, don’t assume. Dig deeper, search further… for the truth. Don’t rely on a rumor or a common assumed ideology. Ignorance kills. You can save us.

Today’s post was inspired by The Daily Prompt : “Remember the seven cardinal sins? You’re given the serious task of adding a new one to the list — another trait or behavior you find particularly unacceptable, for whatever reason. What’s sin #8 for you? Why?

If it were up to you to pick an eighth deadly sin, what would it be and why? Let me know in the comments below!

If I Was Your Teacher

Blog, Culture, Uncategorized

Stroll through life. Don’t overthink it. Don’t get caught up in the crowd. This is a poem for all the young girls in the world, and all the wonderful mothers out there. Happy Mother’s Day!

If I Was Your Teacher

If the world were a classroom, the girls would be the stars.

I’d teach them to laugh and learn without fear,

give them a shoulder to lean on when they shed tears,

not scolded and mistreated, when we are unnerved.

I’d teach them to love unconditionally,

to listen to others, be unique and carefree.

Value their morals and treat all equally,

their hearts are oh so pure.

We must prepare them for the looming pain they’ll endure.

If I was your teacher,

I’d teach you how to forgive.

It lightens your heart, makes it easier to live.

No matter what they say, you are beautiful,

a sparkling star, a valuable emerald.

You are nothing less than a golden prize.

Tall, short, thin and stout,

black, white, blue, red, brown,

Everyone is treasure in God’s eyes.

If I was your teacher,

I’d teach you how to capture every moment in time,

to enjoy life to its fullest, without having to say goodbye.

As life goes on, you mature each step of the way,

I know when you’re older, you will be something great.

“Love as they are,” I would remind her every day,

it is the beauty within that must emanate.

Don’t change for the world, let the world change you.

Life is too short to let others tell you what to do.

If I was your teacher,

I’d tell you that life cannot be taught.

It is a cruel world, dear child,

I will teach you as much as I can,

but there is only so much I can do before you go out into the wild.

Fear not, baby girl, you must never give up.

For you have the mightiest weapon,

your voice is your strength.
