So Halloween happened, and I’m sure we all went a little crazy with our candy consumption. Or was that just me?

New York had me overeating and trying all sorts of local foods, but anyone who knows me knows I always watch what I eat because I’m a health freak. I came back to Houston about three months later, and had ten pounds added to my body. Sure, that sounds normal, but you have to know that I have been the same weight for about four years now. To see that three months changed all of that, really made me reevaluate my eating and fitness habits.

I haven’t kept up with a set workout schedule since my senior year of high school. That needed to change. College happened, a part-time internship on top of that, along with a two hour daily commute. You can see how my day flies by. If I’ve learned anything over the last few years being a workaholic, it’s that health is wealth. There have been times during finals week where I’d get so bogged down that I’d barely eat one hearty meal that day.

No matter how busy you get, always make time to eat healthy and workout at least twice a week. 

So here is my declaration of leading a new lifestyle and I’m going to show you what I’m doing. If you guys have any tips or suggestions to any improvements I can make, let me know in the comments!

1. Have hearty breakfasts and light dinners. We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Since dinner is the last thing we eat, it’s better not to fill yourself up with fatty or oily foods since you don’t have much physical movement after that.

2. Eating in moderation is key, but I took it a step further and started guesstimating my calorie intake so it’s about 1900 calories per day. If you eat that Kit Kat, you’re going to have to compensate somewhere else in your diet. I try drinking an entire 0.5 liter water bottle before each meal so I don’t overeat. A lot of times, our body thinks it’s hungry, but it just needs water.

3. Green tea is my best friend. I used to keep it in a thermos and drink it after every meal, but lately I just drink it after dinner so it increases metabolism.

4. Take a quick walk after every meal. My goal is 300 steps. It’s a random number, but it seems to prevent food coma.

5. Eat and sleep at normal times and stick to your schedule. Once those two systems are in whack, it just ruins your skin and you tend to feel more groggy and grumpy overall. If you have that much work to do, wake up extra early since that’s when your mind is freshly woken up.

6. I do a few stretches and jumping jacks to wake myself up. You can add a caffeinated herbal or black tea to your routine if that helps. I used to be a crazy coffeeholic but I can’t consume it without like six packets of sugar, and we all know that’s inviting so many future health problems.

7. You just have to make time to work out. I can’t always make it to the gym, so I spend 10 minutes every morning doing intense moves inspired by my favorite fitness guru, Cassie Ho. She posts all her ‘Blogilates’ videos on YouTube and each one targets a different part of the body. Just 3-5 minutes long each, her short videos are just what you need to quickly squeeze in some exercise in your day. Trust me, it works because you will be sore after five minutes. These morning workouts will definitely get you pumped up for the rest of the day.

I know that’s a lot of information, but this is what works for me. If any of these tips interest you, I suggest taking it one step at a time. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself.

Summer Lookbook

I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer! This summer has kicked off to a great start, with Ramadan already half way through and a looming internship in the big apple. I know it’s been a while since I posted here so I promise I am going to get back into it.

Filming this lookbook took a great deal of work, but boy was it worth it. I really do hope you enjoy it and maybe even end up buying some of the statement pieces. The looks were meant to be as diverse as possible, with different styles and color schemes.

Spring Break Getaway OOTD

During spring break a few weeks ago, my family decided to go on a mid-week getaway at a secluded resort in Austin, Texas. Barton Creek Resorts was beautiful, surrounded by flourishing plants. Greenery pervaded the acreage as we had a front-view of the golf course from our window. This technology-free vacation was exactly what I needed to reconnect with my family and take my mind off of worldly stress. I left that back at home. There was a cute nature trail and mini-golf course right by the outdoor pool on the cliff overlooking the large bodies of water and surrounding mansions. The sight was breathtaking. I finally had my chance to eat out for almost every meal, trying new varieties like Vietnamese Pho and Japanese California rolls.

Hi friends! Boy, has it been ages since my last post on here. I have a lot to catch you up on, from my acne flare up to my mental health. So here goes.

Not a single pimple in the year 2016 until the gloomy day of December 31, 2016. I thought I could keep the streak going, but my luck just isn’t that considerate towards me. Now I have a bunch of tiny friends popping up every few days, but luckily I restarted my clear skin routine that I made a video of below. It’s kind of going away, but considering the fact that my eating and sleep habits have been erratic, I don’t expect the superficial remedies to work optimally. As far as my New Year’s resolution of working out consistently, I can kiss that one goodbye. The fourth time I worked out this year, was three days ago. I know, please stop cringing.

Animal Shelter OOTD

Yesterday, I went to the animal shelter with some friends to pet the cutest kittens known to man (probably not but they were cute, okay). Their magical puny paws in my hands and soft fur against my skin felt almost too mollifying. No one can resist but fall madly in love with these cuddly creatures. I was tempted to adopt a tabby of brown and gray shades named Corinne.

This little kitten had the charm of a 2-year-old, initially shy, but very playful when comfortable enough. Unfortunately, my parents aren’t too comfortable with the idea of having a living, breathing animal roaming the house amongst us. Someday when I have my own apartment, maybe my dream of owning a kitten, or maybe becoming a cat lady will come true. Au revoir Corinne!

2016 Best & Worst Makeup Products| Happy Holidays

Hello everyone! I hope you are all getting ready for the holidays, because I am definitely excited to venture the town for Christmas lights and decorations. This year has been very interesting to say the least.

From my blog taking off and creating a YouTube channel, to having Donald Trump elected as our president, this year has been a bumpy ride with some exciting twists and turns along the way. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and an even better New Year. I might just sit this New Year’s Eve out and relax in my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fleece onesie, exactly as I did last New Year’s Eve. Talk about déjà vu. Expect a 2016 memories and important events post from me in the next few days.

A Friday in Fall OOTD

This week has been hectic. With a divisive election, nationwide protests, riots, and hatred pervading our communities, things aren’t looking too good. We must stand strong and hope for the best for our nation, because there isn’t much we can do beyond that. This is a democracy; rule of the people, by the people, for the people. If it weren’t for our whispers that meld into roars, America wouldn’t be as established and prosperous as it is today. Don’t ever feel like your voice doesn’t matter. Trust me, it does.

Today’s look is dominated by blue hues, but the photo’s vintage edits give it a somber, warm tone. The photographer was my good friend Laraib Hashmi.
